A little shop on Brownsville Road is drawing people inside with the smell of fresh blooms and a sense of storybook charm. Flowers and Fairytales is more than just a florist—it’s a whimsical wonderland of beauty, creativity, and community connection.

Owner Jaime Desensi didn’t just grow the business—she designed it with the kind of precision only a true artist can understand. With years of experience running other people’s shops, managing finances, and operating a sustainable landscape company, Jaime finally made the leap. “I have always wanted to open my own shop. I had gained all of these skills running businesses for other people. I want to build my family business and use all this training I have. So that’s what we did.”

After filing paperwork in July of 2023, she opened her first storefront just months later in November. By January, Flowers and Fairytales had moved less than a block away to a bigger, brighter location that now fits the business—and the vision—perfectly. “We just love this space. It flows better. I knew I wanted a small-town feel—somewhere we could actively provide services to the community.”

So much so, in fact, that they took home TribLive’s Best of the Best awards in two categories: Best New Business and Best Florist. They were also nationally recognized last year as a Top 1000 FTD Partner—a major nod from one of the largest floral networks in the country.

If you live in Brentwood, you’ve likely already seen Jaime’s work—without even realizing it. She and her team brought fresh life to Brownsville Road, installing over 80 spring baskets and turning the main street into a lush, flowering runway. “It’s really neat to see the reactions of people in the community because people walking down the street want to see something beautiful.”

“Any opportunities that we can have to continue to beautify spaces in the community – those are on our priority list.” Last winter, Jaime gave the borough a postcard-worthy moment with fresh garlands, twinkling lights, and an old-town Christmas vibe. And yes—more seasonal magic is already in the works.

Running alongside Flowers and Fairytales is its sister company, Enchanted Earth Ecological Landscapes, a sustainable landscape service rooted in Jaime’s training with Phipps and her passion for eco-conscious design. Together, these dual ventures allow customers to experience beauty indoors and out—from table centerpieces to garden beds. “They feed off of each other… Someone got flowers from us and now I’m working on designing her landscape.”

Inside the shop, Jaime and her team—including her talented co-designer—are always creating floral masterpieces. She’s constantly on the hunt for fun, storybook-style vases and loves curating arrangements that feel like magic in a jar. Every bouquet is customized with care—and if you’re not sure what you want? Just say “something pretty” and give a budget. They’ve got you.

Flowers and Fairytales is a one-stop shop for thoughtful gifts, with something charming in every corner. You’ll find live plants, chocolates, stepping stones, seed kits, wind chimes, gourmet teas, and even Linda Barnicott art prints and magnets.

Whether it’s a Fourth of July window display (which, trust us, you won’t want to miss), a scavenger hunt in partnership with Blythe Bookstore, or hands-on bouquet-making classes, community involvement is always blooming here. “When things around us are not within our control all the time, at least we can lend a hand where we can, try to partner where we can, keep each other informed. That is what will make us different than everywhere else around us.”

“Two years ago I was preparing to do this thing and this is where we are at now. We are super proud of that and super proud of my team and always looking to see how to make things more beautiful next year.”
