Brentwood Borough Cooling Shelter Open During Extreme Heat Advisory
Due to the ongoing Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service and additional Air Quality Alerts from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Brentwood Borough has opened a temporary cooling shelter to help protect public health.

If you plan to stay for an extended period, please bring any required medications with you. The shelter is intended for short-term relief from the heat and is open to all residents in need.
🔥 About the Extreme Heat Warning
The National Weather Service reports that heat index values are expected to reach around 105°F through Wednesday evening in Allegheny County and surrounding areas. These conditions significantly increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for:
- Older adults
- Infants and young children
- Pregnant people
- Individuals with chronic illnesses or mobility limitations
- People working outdoors

- Stay indoors or in air-conditioned places
- Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty
- Avoid strenuous activity
- Check in on elderly family members or neighbors
- Never leave children or pets in vehicles

🌫️ Air Quality Action Day – June 23
The Pennsylvania DEP has also issued an Ozone Action Day for Monday, June 23. Air quality is forecasted to reach the “Orange” level, which means it could be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
On Air Quality Action Days:
- Limit outdoor activity for children, seniors, and those with respiratory conditions
- Postpone use of gas-powered yard tools
- Refuel vehicles after 7 PM
- Close blinds during the day to reduce energy use
- No open burning is allowed in Allegheny County
